UK supermarket chain Asda has around 265 stores and 19 depots across the UK and sells a range of fresh food, grocery, clothing, home, leisure and entertainment goods. Asda was acquired by the world’s biggest retailer, US-based Wal-Mart, in June 1999. Like market leader Tesco, Asda has a strong non-food offering. The company also has its own clothing brand, George at Asda, which was set up over 13 years ago and is now a business of around £1bn a year and Britain’s number two fashion brand by volume. George’s UK ranges are now sold in over 220 Asda UK stores, 89 Wal-Mart Germany stores and pilots are under way in Wal-Mart stores in the US, Canada and Korea.
