Japanese retailer Aeon is a holding company for over 150 subsidiaries operating grocery, general merchandise and drug store operations. Aeon's food retailing businesses are based around its Maxvalu arm in Japan, as well as stores in China. Aeon, Japan's second-largest retailer, switched to a holding structure in 2008, with its retail interests moved to Aeon Retail Co. In December of that year, Aeon struck a deal with Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Corp. on distribution, procurement and the supply chain. Under the agreement, the conglomerate bought a 5.05% stake in Aeon and the companies said they would look to beef up their presence not just in Japan but across Asia. Head Office
