Dutch retail group Ahold is one of the world’s largest food retailers. The company’s main business is the operation through subsidiaries and joint ventures of food retail in the US and Europe. In the US, Ahold operates the Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover, Giant-Carlisle and Martin's food retail companies and online food retailer Peapod. In Europe, the group has wholly-owned and majority-owned subsidiaries in The Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia. In Portugal, the company owns a 49% stake in food chain Jeronimo Martin's Retail. Its food retail trade operations in Europe include hypermarkets, supermarkets and convenience stores. Banners include Albert Heijn, Albert and Hypernova. The company also operates the Netherlands health and beautycare chain Etos and wine and liquor retailer Gall & Gall. Ahold’s joint venture ICA is an integrated food retail and wholesale group, servicing retailer-owned and company-owned neighbourhood stores, supermarkets, superstores, hypermarkets and discount stores in Scandinavia and the Baltic states.
