German discount grocer Aldi has declined to comment on whisperings that it plans to expand into New Zealand.

The group has made inroads into Australia since it launched there last year, and now enjoys a 0.4% market share. This modest figure masks its burgeoning position in its key operating regions: New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

Aldi is reported to have registered the website domain as early as last summer, but made modifications to it earlier this week. It is likely the move will happen in a year or two, when the group's Australian operations are more established.
