SPAIN: Andalusia to invest €93m in organic farming
The region of Andalusia, situated in southern Spain, is to invest more than €93m (US$95.9m) in a programme aimed at boosting organic farming in the region.
The regional government will contribute €69m of the total investment, with the remainder being contributed by investors from the regional agriculture sector.
The programme will include financing the production process, marketing, advertising and internationalisation of the products, reported the Spanish News Digest.
The area of land in Andalusia currently devoted to organic farming is 125,000 hectares, representing 1.7% of the organic farming area in Europe. The regional government is hoping to increase this percentage to 7% with the programme.
