Bakkavor has confirmed 419 jobs will go in the Selby plant closure

Bakkavor said yesterday it booked GBP1.1m (US$1.7m) of exceptional charges during the first quarter of the year, after confirming it had decided to close its Yorkshire Fresh Fruit site in Selby, North Yorkshire.

The site will cease trading at the end of June and 419 staff will be made redundant.

The company said in February it was considering closure of the site, after it lost a contract to supply a "major customer".

The statement did not name the retailer the plant supplied but reports have suggested the customer as Asda.

Yesterday, Bakkavor reported a 15% jump in adjusted EBITDA to GBP27.3m for the first quarter of the year. Revenues increased 4% to GBP425.5m.
