Soup and seafood manufacturer Blount Fine Foods has launched a line of gourmet soups for retail sale under the Blount brand.

The soups will be sold frozen in convenient reusable 20 ounce cups in three flavours: New England Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque and Shrimp & Corn Chowder.

President Todd Blount said: "With the launch of this line under our own brand name, we are also making a conscious effort to upgrade America's soup experience.

"While people are eating out less, they still want the quality and experience of a restaurant. These restaurant soups give the consumer a 'night-out' experience in the home."

In addition to the three core varieties, seasonal specialties are also planned around the autumn and holiday seasons, Blount said. The flavours will be announced as they become available.

The Blount Soups will initially be available in grocery and specialty stores around New England, up and down the east coast and in club stores around the country in double-packs.

The suggested retail for the 20oz soups is expected to range from US$5.99-$6.99.
