Campbell Soup has appointed Craig Owens to the newly-created position of chief administrative officer and chief financial officer.

Owens appointment will become effective from 6 October and he will report to Campbell president and CEO, Douglas Conant.

Owens will join Campbell from the Delhaize Group where he has been executive vice president and CFO since 2001. Prior to this, Owens held several general management and senior financial positions with The Coca-Cola Company and various Coca-Cola bottlers from 1981 to 2001.

"We are very excited to have Craig Owens join the Campbell team," said Conant. "His strong financial acumen and global food and beverage industry experience make him an ideal choice to be our chief financial officer. Campbell is making great strides in strengthening our global supply chain and information technology functions, and I am confident that Craig's experience in these areas will build upon the excellent work we already have underway."

As CFO, Owens will have responsibility for Campbell's controller's, corporate development, investor relations, corporate audit, treasury and tax departments.

He succeeds Robert Schiffner, who stepped down as CFO on 1 August. Schiffner will retire from the company on 31 January 2009, and in the interim will assist in Owens' transition.

"I look forward to working with a team of dedicated professionals and contributing to Campbell's continued success," Owens commented.
