UK: 2 Sisters agrees Cavaghan & Gray pay deal
By Michelle Russell | 5 September 2012
Workers at Cavaghan & Gray, a subsidiary of UK firm 2 Sisters Food Group, have agreed a compromise over pay and working conditions.
The dispute arose when 2 Sisters bought the Carlisle-based ready meals producer in April last year and reportedly reduced rates of sickness pay, redundancy, overtime and bank holiday working.
A spokesperson for 2 Sisters, however, said a ballot took place on 29 August with regard to proposed changes to a substantive agreement, which resulted in 81% of workers voting to accept the changes.
The spokesperson said: "As the company's proposals have been accepted, the period of 90 days consultation which commenced on 26 June 2012 will cease with effect from 29 August. We would like to thank all those who voted."
Jayne Shotton, USDAW area organiser, added: "The company and the employee reps worked together to achieve a mutually beneficial solution during the consultation process on site."
