US: Diamond Foods CEO Mendes joins Hormel board

Diamond Foods chairman, president and CEO Michael Mendes has joined the board of US food group Hormel Foods.

Mendes, 48, also serves on the board for the Grocery Manufacturers Association. He joined Diamond in 1991 as vice president of international sales and marketing and assumed his current position in 1997.

In addition, Hormel yesterday (27 September) announced that Glenn Forbes and Stephen Lacy have also joined the company's board.

Forbes, 63, is also the medical director for initiatives in diversified business activities for medical imaging services at Mayo Clinic.

Lacy, 57, is chairman of the board, president and CEO at US-based Meredith Corp., having joined the company in 1998.

"We welcome Glenn, Stephen and Michael to the board and look forward to the insight they will contribute from their respective industries to help us continue growing the company," Hormel chairman of the board, president and CEO Jeffrey Ettinger.

Forbes, Lacy and Mendes will replace Ronald Pearson, Hugh Smith, and John Turner who are due to retire. Pearson will retire 30 September while Smith and Turner will retire effective 21 November.

Also effective 21 November, John Morrison will replace Turner as lead director of the board.
