Former Unilever executive David Tyler has been named as chairman of Sainsbury's, the UK's third-largest food retailer.
Tyler, currently chairman of IT group Logica, will take the role at Sainsbury's next month. A director of consumer goods group Reckitt-Benckiser, Tyler spent 12 years at Unilever between 1974 and 1986.
Tyler replaces Sir Philip Hampton, who will focus on his position at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
"David has a broad range of experience that makes him ideal for the chairman role and I look forward to working with him," Sainsbury's chief executive Justin King said.
"On behalf of the company I'd also like to thank Philip Hampton for his contribution to Sainsbury's over the past five years and for the significant part he has played in the company's recovery."
Sainsbury's will issue its fiscal third-quarter results for the three months to 3 October on 7 October.
