General Mills is to launch around 40 new yoghurt products |
US food giant General Mills is to launch around 40 yoghurt products in the US this year.
Yoplait USA has lined up a range of new lines like Yoplait Greek 100, Yoplait Simplait, Yoplait Fruplait, Mountain High All Natural Yogurt, and Liberté Méditerranée and Liberté Greek.
Greek yoghurt has been described by some analysts as a booming market in the US. What was once a niche product, Greek yoghurt has now become mainstream, attracting major players to the category.
General Mills, however, has faced questions over its strategy in the Greek yoghurt category. Yoplait's Greek yoghurt sales were up 50% in the US during General Mills' third quarter, which ran until 26 February. However, analysts have remained concerned about the level of distribution it has secured for its products. General Mills had insisted it will increase production capacity, spend more money on marketing and launch more products, which appears to now be doing.
The company is expected to provide more detail on the recent performance of its yoghurt business tomorrow when it announces its annual results.
General Mills has announced Yoplait USA's robust lineup of innovation this fiscal year.
Becky O'Grady, vice president and president of Yoplait USA, shared the brand's commitment to driving innovation across the yogurt category with an "unprecedented" level of new products scheduled.
In total, the business will launch 40 products this fiscal year.
The biggest launch for Yoplait will be Yoplait Greek 100, a yogurt that delivers all of the benefits of Greek yogurt - thick and creamy texture and two times the protein of regular yogurt - in 100 calories.
The product's package will carry an endorsement from Weight Watchers with a PointsPlus value of two per serving and will be available in stores across the U.S. by August.
Yoplait Greek 100 adds to our expanding line of Greek yogurt products, including Yoplait Greek Parfaits with Nature Valley Granola and Yoplait Greek yogurt multi-packs in Coconut, Cherry Pomegranate and Blueberry flavors, introduced earlier this calendar year.
Other new yogurts launching this summer in the U.S. include:
· Yoplait Simplait - A yogurt crafted from six simple, all-natural ingredients available in four delicious flavors.
· Yoplait Fruplait - A blend of Yoplait Original and fruit.
· Mountain High All Natural Yogurt - Already a Large Segment leader in the Western U.S., Yoplait is launching the brand nationally this summer.
· Liberté Méditerranée and Liberté Greek - Liberté is the fastest growing yogurt business in Canada. In July, Yoplait USA will assume operation of the Liberté brand in the United States. Both Liberté products launching in the U.S. this summer are great-tasting, premium yogurts.
Yoplait has been the leading brand in the U.S. yogurt category each year since 2000
