US: Mars plans “wholesale price hikes”

Mars is reportedly planning to raise the wholesale price of some of its confectionery products in order to offset rising costs.

Mars has not revealed which products will be included in the round of price hikes. Nor did it reveal how much prices will be increased by.

The company was unavailable for comment as just-food went to press.

Last week, fellow US confectioner Hershey revealed plans to raise prices by 11% across the board.

The floodgates have been opened by Hershey. Now everyone will follow... Nestle, Russell Stover, Lindt...

Lindt especially will be pleased given that much of what they sell out there is exported from the EUR/CHF area. This may indeed have been an issue in the first six month of this year. Results tomorrow, so we'll see then.
