UK: Milk Link revamp creates two business units
By Dean Best | 17 August 2011
UK dairy co-op Milk Link has created two business units in a revamp that its chief executive says will improve the company's performance.
The company, which is owned by over 1,500 dairy farmers and makes products including milk, cheese and dairy ingredients, has set up two divisions.
Milk Link's cheese division will supply cheese and butter to UK retailers and foodservice operators.
The unit, to be headed by former Adams Foods MD Carl Ravenhall, will also incorporate the co-op's Cheddar creameries, its cheese-packing facility in Oswestry, its speciality cheese business and its export sales.
The second unit is the milk division and will oversee the co-op's membership and its milk supply.
Shelagh Hancock, Milk Link's milk, trading and membership director, will be the division's director and will also oversee the co-op's ingredients and beverage businesses. Milk Link sells dairy ingredients to companies including Premier Foods, Kerry Group and Kraft Foods and makes long-life and flavoured milks.
Chief executive Neil Kennedy said today (17 August) that both units would have dedicated sales and marketing teams and would draw on central resources including finance and supply chain.
"This we believe will deliver greater commercial and operational focus on our core revenue generating areas and in turn drive a higher level of performance," Kennedy said.
