The vice chairman of US poultry giant Pilgrim's Pride is to retire from the company.

Clifford Butler, who has spent 38 years at the company, has told the company he will not stand for re-election at the company's AGM in January.

"My years at the company have been extremely fulfilling, and as I prepare to make changes in my own life, I will continue to work hard to make sure Pilgrim's Pride is in a position to grow and succeed," said Butler.

In July, Pilgrim's Pride elected Lonnie Ken Pilgrim to succeed his father Lonnie "Bo" Pilgrim as the company's chairman.
