POLAND: Rewe quashes Tesco acquisition reports
Reports today (28 April) have suggested that acquisition of the local Billa outlets would strengthen Tesco's position in the Polish supermarket sector - one of the fastest growing sales segments in the country.
However, a spokesperson for Rewe told just-food: "I have no information about any talks or plans to sell our Billa supermarkets in Poland."
Officials at Tesco could not be reached for immediate comment.
Yesterday, Rewe told just-food it plans to open 260 stores across its domestic market this year.
A spokesperson for the company said the group plans to open 160 of its Penny discount stores and 100 of its Rewe supermarket stores across the country.
