UK: Sainsbury's launches 'free next time' promo

By: just-food.com | 18 November 2009

UK retailer Sainsbury's has launched its first 'buy now free next time' promotional offer across 470 stores.

The offer will be available on two products, the company said today (17 November), Sainsbury's white crusty baguettes and Pampers Baby-Dry Nappies Carry Pack in all sizes from 18 - 24 November.

Gwyn Burr, customer director, said: "Following feedback from our customers, we learnt that whilst 'buy one get one free' promotional offers on nappies offer great value, large packs often prove difficult and cumbersome to carry around the store, they tend to take up a lot of room in the trolley and can be problematic in providing storage space at home."

She added: "This promotion will also allow customers to buy freshly baked bread in-store as and when they need it. Our white crusty baguettes wouldn't normally be selected as a 'buy one get one free' offer item because it is a fresh product that is generally consumed within a day, but we believe it represents great value for the Sainsbury's shopper."

When customers buy the products they will receive a coupon offering them the free product next time they visit the store. Customers have two weeks to redeem coupons from purchase.

This weekend Sainsbury's has also extended the food range in its Wine & Dine for GBP10 (US$16.81) offer to include dishes such as Taste the Difference Paella and Mini British Cheese Selection.

The move follows a similar promotion launched by Tesco last month, that saw the UK's largest retailer roll out "Buy One Get One Free - Later" offers in its stores.
