UK: Sainsbury's to create 6,000 jobs over next year
By Michelle Russell | 23 May 2012
The CEO of UK retailer Sainsbury's has said the firm is to create 6,000 jobs over the forthcoming year.
Chief executive Justin King told the Sunemployment Roadshow today (23 May) that the supermarket was "committed" to supporting the economy's growth and "boosting skills" by employing "more people than ever before".
The retailer said it currently recruits around 500 people each week for its network of around 1,000 stores across the UK.
"As one of Britain's biggest employers, the range of jobs, training and skills we offer is growing with our business," King said. "We're creating thousands of opportunities each year across a variety of careers, from leaders of the future who want to run their own business area, to parents and students looking to work around other commitments."
To help increase awareness of the jobs available for young people within Sainsbury's, the retailer has recently launched a campaign called 'Youth Can', headed up by Sainsbury's colleagues under the age of 25.
