US: Save Mart COO retires, for second time

By just-food.com | 4 January 2008

Bob Spengler, president and COO of Save Mart Supermarkets, has announced his retirement from the company.

It is the second time Spengler has retired from the US retail group. He first left in 2005, but was lured back a year later to help run Save Mart's acquisition of 132 Northern California stores, which were bought from Albertsons LLC.

The company said it has no plans to hire a replacement. Instead, a three-member executive team will take over Spengler's role and report to CEO Bob Piccinini.

In a statement, Piccinini said Spengler had agreed to come back to Save Mart "with the stipulation that it would be a short-term deal."
