Smithfield, Reckitt Benckiser launch French's UK hot dog range
Smithfield Foods and Reckitt Benckiser have teamed up to launch French's Hot Dogs in the UK
US food maker Smithfield Foods has teamed up with French's mustard owner Reckitt Benckiser to launch a range of chilled hot dogs in the UK.
The hot dogs, made by pork giant Smithfield, will be available in two sizes: 35g "classic" with an RRP of GBP2.00 and 90g "jumbo" for GBP2.50.
"French's remains at the forefront of the American food trend currently sweeping the UK," said French's spokesperson Amy Woodbridge. "The addition of the classic and jumbo hot dogs to our already strong portfolio of condiments and toppings only solidifies our presence within the marketplace and provides consumers a delicious base to create their ideal hot dog."
The hot dogs will be available nationwide in Asda stores from the middle of this month.
French’s, the USA’s No. 1 brand of mustard, will launch a new chilled range of high quality hot dogs in the UK this October. French’s Hot Dogs will be the latest addition to the brand’s extensive range of mustard, relishes, sauces, and salad dressings. French’s is best known for its Classic Yellow Mustard which is the most popular American mustard brand in the UK.
The French’s Hot Dog has been produced by Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork producer. Jill Leigh, Category Manager for Smithfield Foods, said: “Our research showed that French’s is trusted by hot dog consumers, making it the perfect partner for a naturally beechwood smoked hot dog with no artificial colours or flavours.”
The French’s Hot Dog will be available in two sizes: Classic (35g) and Jumbo (90g). The French’s Classic Hot Dog will come in a pack of 10, divided into five ‘tear-and-go’ pouches of two, with portion control & convenience being at the forefront of the packaging design specifications. The Jumbo Hot Dog packs will contain four individually sealed Hot Dogs locking in freshness and making opening and resealing easy. Neither variant contains any artificial colours or flavours and is made up of more meat than the current hot dog market leader.
“French’s remains at the forefront of the American food trend currently sweeping the UK”, said French’s spokesperson Amy Woodbridge. “The addition of the Classic and Jumbo Hot Dogs to our already strong portfolio of condiments and toppings only solidifies our presence within the marketplace and provides consumers a delicious base to create their ideal hot dog.”
“Our decision to place the product with the UK’s largest retailers is rooted in our dedication to giving the French’s customer access to the American-style products they love at an affordable price point.”
French’s will be running a £1 million marketing campaign with The Discovery Channel to support the launch of the new Hot Dogs. The initiative will run from November of this year, with the aim of reaching 18% of UK adults.
French’s Hot Dogs will be available nationwide in ASDA stores from the 13th October onward and Sainsbury’s from the 29th October. The RRP is £2.50 for the Jumbo Hot Dogs (pack of four) and £2.00 for the Classic Hot Dogs (pack of ten).
