UK: Tesco launches fish finger sandwich

By: just-food.com | 7 September 2009

UK retail giant Tesco has launched a "credit crunch" GBP2 (US$3.27) fish finger sandwich, complete with lettuce and ketchup.

The retailer said today (7 September) that the launch is due to a "credit crunch driven boom for English comfort food".

A chilled version of the student classic will go on sale exclusively at Tesco stores across the UK from today.

Tesco product developer Laura Fagan, said: "Nothing makes us feel better in difficult times than familiar comfort food that puts a smile on our faces and reminds us of happier days.

"The fish finger sandwich is a British classic that we think will appeal to a wide audience - from people wanting a nutritious snack to those who fondly remember snacking on them when they were youngsters or students."

The Fish Finger and Ketchup Sandwich, as it is officially called, features cod fish fingers, sandwiched between two slices of white bread, ketchup and leaves of Apollo lettuce.

Tesco said it has discussed developing other comfort food classic sandwiches but it will see how well the fish finger sandwich sells first.
