Unilever hopes for chunk of growing frozen yoghurt sales in UK

Ben & Jerry's frozen Greek-style yoghurt and a range of "gelato" Carte D'Or products are among the lines set for launch as Unilever prepares to introduce a raft of products into the UK market.

Unilever said the lines, which also include new SKUs under its Cornetto and Solero brands, had been devised to tap into "key category trends and insights".

"The new products will launch to grow current and anticipated consumer and category trends - such as the growth seen in frozen yoghurt, luxury desserts and handheld formats and the trend towards consuming ice cream as a snack," Unilever said.

The Ben & Jerry's Greek-style frozen yoghurt comes three flavours - strawberry shortcake, vanilla honey caramel and raspberry chocolatey chunk. Unilever, citing data from IRI, said sales of frozen yoghurt market in the UK were up over 15% in the year to the end of December.

The yoghurt has an RRP of GBP4.99 (US$8.31) for 500ml tubs and GBP1.68 for 150ml "mini tubs".

The world's largest ice cream manufacturer has also developed Carte D'Or Gelateria, a range of five products it said would "enable consumers to bring the Italian gelato experience into their homes".

Unilever said the Gelateria range would "establish Carte D'Or as the ultimate dessert". It has an RRP of GBP3.89 for a 900ml tub.

Other new products include Cornetto Choc 'n' Ball, a product it described as the "ultimate manly ice cream". The product, Unilever added, "caters specifically for male consumers seeking a substantial snack offering".
