US: Weaver Popcorn issues recall

By: just-food.com | 16 March 2009

Weaver Popcorn has issued a precautionary voluntary recall for 12oz (340g) bags of its Trail's End Chocolatey Peanut Clusters.

The company said the recall stemmed from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanding the Peanut Corporation of America's (PCA) salmonella-related recall to include all peanut ingredient products produced at PCA's Plainview, Texas facility since 1 January, 2007.

"Although we have not received a single health related complaint or any reports of illness related to this product, we are taking this voluntary precautionary action out of an abundance of caution and consistent with our 80-year unwavering commitment to consumer safety and to providing the highest-quality products," said Mike Weaver, president and CEO of Weaver Popcorn Company.

Consumers who have open bags of the product are being urged to destroy them, while any customers with unopened packs can call a toll-free number to arrange a refund.
