UK: Westaways, Thatchers roll out cider sausage
Westaways has produced a Pork, Apple and Cider Sausage using Somerset cider from Thatchers
Westaways Sausages has teamed up with cider producer Thatchers to launch a new sausage with a "twist" for the UK market.
Devon-based Westaways has produced a pork, apple and cider Sausage using Somerset cider from Thatchers. With apple offering a "natural sweet taste", the addition of Thatchers cider offers "a Westcountry twist", the two firms said.
The sausages will go on sale later this month in Tesco stores and independent retailers.
Charles Baughan, MD of Westaways Sausages, said: "With the best of British pork and Somerset cider, these sausages are a welcome addition to the Westaways range."
Two of the Westcountry’s favourite food and drink producers have joined forces to create something new this summer. Devon based Westaways Sausages has produced a new Pork, Apple and Cider Sausage using the tastiest Somerset cider from Thatchers.
With apple giving a natural sweet taste, the addition of traditional Thatchers cider lends a Westcountry twist to the succulent sausages.
The sausages will go on sale later this month, but visitors to the Royal Bath and West Show in Shepton Mallet were given a sneak preview, where they were a definite hit on the grill.
Martin Thatcher, Managing Director of Thatchers Cider says, “This is such a great idea. The Westcountry is a hive of activity when it comes to food and drink, and joining forces in this way creates an extra special Westcountry product.”
Distribution has already been agreed with Tesco, and over 13,000 independent retailers through Kerryfresh.
Charles Baughan, Managing Director of Westaways Sausages says, “With the best of British pork and Somerset cider, these sausages are a welcome addition to the Westaways range.”
Westaways supplies butchers, caterers, supermarkets, and delicatessens throughout the Westcountry with sausages, Hogs Pudding, stuffings and other related products. One in ten of the premium sausages eaten in the West Country are from Westaways.
Thatchers Cider is based in Somerset and has been crafting cider at Myrtle Farm since 1904. The family led company is one of the country’s most distinctive craft cider makers.
