The food and grocery sector thrived during the pandemic, largely due to the shutdown of the food service industry and the sector’s subsequent necessity, panic-induced bulk purchasing, and spending more time at home. The number of roles in Europe made up 28.2% of total robotics jobs – up from 7.2% in the same quarter in 2020.

That was followed by Asia-Pacific, which saw a 2.2 year-on-year percentage point decrease in robotics roles.

The figures are compiled by GlobalData, which tracks the number of new job postings from key companies in various sectors over time. Using textual analysis, these job advertisements are then classified thematically.

Which countries are seeing the most growth for robotics job ads in the food industry?

The fastest-growing country was France, which reported 22.1% in job ads in the three months ending December.

That was followed by Spain (up 0.6 percentage points), Poland (up 0.4), and Canada (up -0.4).

The top country for robotics roles in the food industry is the United States, which still accciunted for 60.5% of all roles advertised in the three months ending December.

Which cities are the biggest hubs for robotics workers in the food industry?

Some 9.9 per cent of all food industry robotics roles were advertised in the US city of Charlotte in the three months ending December - more than any other city.

That was followed by Jeffersonville (also in the US) with 9.9%, Lafayette (again in the US) with 3.4%, and fellow US city Richmond with 2.7%.
