7-Eleven will reportedly promote hot meal sales at its stores next year in an attempt to fend off competition in the US and Canada.

The US convenience store chain, which operates globally, also said it will add 900 stores in North America over the next three years, according to Retail Week.

Approximately 3,300 of 7-Eleven, Inc.'s 7,100 stores in North America are operated by franchisees, and approximately 430 are operated by licensees.

In 2005, 7-Eleven, Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of Seven & I Holdings Company.

The company's corporate communications team was unavailable for comment today (22 December).
