Dallas-based convenience store giant 7-Eleven has seen a 3.4% increase in its US same-store merchandise sales for April 2002. Total merchandise sales for April 2002 were US$594.8m, an increase of 3.6% over the April 2001 total of US$574.2m. Gasoline sales for April 2002 were US$240.7m compared to US$246.1m in the prior-year period. Sales decreased 2.2% due to a 13-cent per gallon decline in the average retail price of gasoline year-over-year. The average retail price per gallon for April 2002 was US$1.46, compared to US$1.59 in April 2001. Although sales were lower, the average gallons of gasoline sold per store increased 4.3% in April 2002 compared to the April 2001 figure.
