Atria has sold its Linnamae pig farm

Atria, the Finland-based food group, has announced the sale of a pig farm in northern Estonia.

The Linnamae pig farm will be transferred to its new owner today (29 April).

"The pig farm is located in the northern part of Estonia, which causes big logistical cost of transporting pigs to Atria's production plant in southern Estonia. In the current market situation the reduction of costs is necessary," it added.

The group is anticipating an EUR1m (US$1.1m) loss on sales as a result of the sale of the business.

A spokesperson for Atria told just-food 12 jobs would be affected by the announcement but all 12 staff would migrate over to the new owner.

Yesterday the group booked lower net losses for the first-quarter of 2016 on the back of "good" productivity.  Last month it acquired Swedish poultry group Lagerbergs.
