Royal Hawaiian - now owned by Buderim.

Australian ginger specialist Buderim Group has acquired macadamia business Royal Hawaiian Orchards.

Buderim will merge its new venture with its pre-existing macadamia operation MacFarms.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, will see Buderim become the largest marketer of macadamia nuts in the US, it claims.

Andrew Bond, chief executive officer at Buderim said: "This transformational acquisition creates a platform for us to become a global leader in macadamia nut snacks.

"Leading the US market - where there is significant growth potential for this healthy, nutrient-rich snack - will help us lay the groundwork for making our macadamia nuts a household staple across the world."

Scott Wallace, executive vice president at MacFarms, will lead the combined business and oversee sales, marketing and operations, having previously worked for Royal Hawaiian Orchards.

He said: "I believe this is a genuinely exciting opportunity that creates a win-win for consumers, customers, suppliers and employees of both brands."

MacFarms' products are currently sold in Hawaii and via Costco stores around the world and Royal Hawaiian Orchards' products are available in stores throughout the US, including Whole Foods Market and 7-Eleven.
