Cavac was wheat supplier to Biofournil

French food co-operative Groupe Cavac has announced the acquisition of local organic bread products specialist Biofournil.

Cavac said Biofournil's owner and president, Jean Yves Fouché, was approaching retirement and wished to transfer his company to a local partner.

The co-op is a long-standing supplier of organic wheat to Biofournil.

The Biofournil brand range, which includes brioches, sandwich bread and organic hamburger buns, is sold in supermakets while a second brand, L’Angélus, is dedicated to the organic food shop channel.

Biofournil employs around 80 staff and this year has a projected output of 11m bread and viennese pastry products.

Cavac underlined it would be pursuing Bonfournil's development in the organic bakery market with a new industrial investment programme planned.

"As a subsidiary of Cavac, Biofournil will remain independent, with its own management.......A new CEO is scheduled to arrive shortly," Cavac added.

Cavac, with activities spanning organic meat, eggs, cereals and dry vegetables, reported a 2013-14 consolidated turnover of EUR900m (US$1.01bn).

Biofournil's turnover has not been disclosed.
