Clemens Food Group - expansion plans unveiled

Clemens Food Group, a US-based pork processor, is to spend US$228m on expanding its operations in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.

It plans to build a new facility to support increased production of smoked meats and cooked sausage, a project that will create 90 jobs.

Clemens, a vertically-integrated pork business headquartered in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, owns brands such as Hatfield, Farm Promise and Premium Reserve.

It received local funding in the shape of a $2.5m Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant to help finance its expansion plans. It also received a Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) workforce development grant of $215,400 to help fund the training of workers.

Some 2,634 people already work at the Hatfield plant.

Brad Clemens, president of Clemens Food Group, said: "We are proud to be able to expand our operations in our home state of Pennsylvania. We wouldn't have been able to do so without the support of the DCED, our vendor partners and most importantly, our talented team members."

Clemens is a sixth-generation, family-owned business. It has a network of more than 25 farms throughout Indiana, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, along with a second processing facility in Coldwater, Michigan.
