Clif Bar Inc., the nation's third-largest maker of energy and nutrition foods, has named WongDoody of Los Angeles as its full-service advertising agency following a review of 25 agencies.

WongDoody will provide strategic and creative services to assist Clif Bar Inc. in advertising its three brands -- Clif Bar®, the energy bar providing nutrition for sustained energy; LUNA(TM), the whole nutrition bar for women(TM); and Clif SHOT(TM), the energy gel delivering quick energy to endurance athletes. Work on the estimated $8 million account is slated to begin in October.

"We asked our three finalist agencies -- Black Rocket, Team One Advertising and WongDoody -- to solve a specific strategic and creative assignment for us," said Gary Erickson, co-founder and CEO of privately held Clif Bar Inc. "While everyone did an excellent job, the quality of WongDoody's strategic thinking and creative concepts blew us away. We can't wait to unveil the finished advertising campaigns."

Clif Bar Inc., which expects sales to reach $75 million in 2000, currently handles its own advertising in conjunction with freelancers. The company retained AAR/Bob Wolf Partners, the Los Angeles-based consulting firm, to conduct the advertising agency review.

With offices in Seattle and Los Angeles, WongDoody has 70 employees and billings of $80 million. The company's clients include Alaska Airlines, adidas America, MGM Home Entertainment, Safeco Insurance, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Seattle Supersonics.
