Full year profits at meat processor Dunbia have jumped, boosted by new production facilities, as owners continue to weigh up options for the business.

For the year ending 29 March, net profit rose to GBP5.8m (US$8.5m) from GBP3.4m.

Operating profit for the period increased to GBP8.98m from GBP6.7m a year earlier. The company said this was a result of “a continued focus on margins and improvements in productivity”.

Turnover rose to GBP820.6m from GBP764.2m, driven by the full year impact of new facilities.

At the end of 2013, Dunbia announced a GBP7.5m investment on a beef processing site in Wales, creating 208 jobs. Earlier it redeveloped its Llanybydder site.

Dunbia announced at the end of last year it wasmulling options to “maximise the potential” of the company after attracting interest in the business. The company said it had received “several serious expressions of interest from would-be investors” in the past two years.

When asked whether there had been any developments with this, a spokesperson for the company yesterday (5 January)told just-food “we don’t have any further updates at present.”
