US retailer Stater Bros has seen second-quarter sales rise 6.9% thanks in part to this year's early Easter.

The company booked sales of US$925.4m for the three months to 25 March. Stripping out the impact on sales from the early Easter holidays, like-store sales increased 3.7%.

President and CEO Jack Brown said: "We were pleased with our operating results for the quarter."

Net income was flat at $13.5m.
