The Authentic Food Co has invested GBP2m (US$3.1m) in increasing production capacity after securing contracts with UK retailer Asda and several leading European retailers.

The ethnic food manufacturer, which invested GBP2m (US$3.1m) in its two sites in Stockport and Sharston in Greater Manchester, said it has achieved "significant" growth in the last four years and hopes to hit GBP50m in revenue this year.

Much of the new capacity, the firm said, has been created following the win of a contract with Asda in addition to several leading retailers in Europe, which it did not name.

The company produces around one million meals per week, which it supplies to UK pub chains and retailers.

AUTHENTIC INVEST IN THEIR FUTURE WITH £2M EXPANSION

The Authentic Food Company (TAFC), based in Manchester, have invested £2m across both their sites, Stockport and Sharston, to increase their production capacity due to recent significant business wins.

The Manchester based food manufacturing company, owned by the Basran family, is expected to hit £50m revenue this year and currently produces around one million meals per week, of which are predominantly supplied to national pub chains and major retailers throughout the UK.

Much of the new capacity has been created following the win of new major contracts with Asda as well as several leading retailers in Europe.

The company started from humble roots in co-founder Kamal Basran's kitchen in 1985 with just a £5000 bank loan.

The company has achieved significant growth in the last four years. Managing Director Nik Basran comments; "Although our business has nearly doubled in size in the last four years our objective remains the same, to create restaurant quality food for our customers."

Basran continues; "We brought in a new board in 2008 and we have been working hard to hit the targets we set ourselves and its pleasing to see that work coming to fruition. One exciting new development is our expansion into Europe where we are relishing the challenge of supplying new flavours to the markets where ethnic food is far less developed."

The company recently also won Gold at the Grocer Own Label Awards for their Chicken Tikka Masaala supplied to the Co-op and achieved Gold ranking in Investors in People.
