Filippo Berio crostini available in UK next month

Olive oil supplier Filippo Berio has worked with UK snacks and ingredients maker Chaucer Food Group to launch a range of branded crostini in the country.

Filippo Berio, majority owned by China's Bright Food, is rolling out the product next month.

The company said it is working on securing listings for the crostini but "expects" the products will be available in "all major supermarkets" in the UK.

The range contains five varieties, including sun dried tomato and formaggio. Filippo Berio has used its extra virgin olive oil in the recipes for the crostini. The company said 100g packs would have a recommended selling price of GBP1.99 (US$2.48). Smaller packs of 24g will also be available.

Walter Zanre, the managing director of Filippo Berio's operations in the UK, said: "We have long had an ambition to bring a snacking product to market with Chaucer and we are delighted to have found a partner that has developed a range of such fantastic tasting products."

Bright Food has acquired a "majority" stake in Italian olive oil manufacturer Salov Group, the company behind Filippo Berio, in 2014.

Chaucer was sold to Japanese food group Nagatanien Holdings in December last year.
