MacMillan is leaving the the Food Ethics Council to become director of innovation at the Soil Association, a newly created role

Executive director at The Food Ethics Council, Dr Tom MacMillan, has announced his intention to leave the company.

He has served in this role since 2003 and the company is conducting a search for a suitable successor.

MacMillan is leaving the the Food Ethics Council to become director of innovation at the Soil Association, a newly created role. The Soil Association is a membership charity campaigning for organic food and farming.

He is due to start his new role around the end of the year, the company said.

A spokesperson for the company said MacMillan will be responsible for helping with the direction of the company's latest sustainability strategy - called The Road to 2020. In this role, he will be "looking at innovation within the new strategy, making sure the company is underpinning everything we do with good research and science," the spokesperson added.

"My brief will be to strengthen the Soil Association's approach to scientific research, the use of evidence and developing best practice, within a bold new strategy that refocuses on promoting innovation and social justice," MacMillan said.
