"Strong" demand drove record sales at Cal-Maine

US egg supplier Cal-Maine Foods has booked a jump in annual sales thanks to a year of record sales.

Cal-Maine today (28 July) posted net income of US$109.2m for the 12 months to the end of May, compared to $50.4m a year earlier. Operating income was $146.1m, against $59.6m in the prior year.

In Cal-Maine's previous financial year, it had booked a charge of $17m after settling an anti-trust lawsuit.

Cal-Maine's annual net sales were up 11.9% at $1.44bn, which president and CEO Dolph Baker noted was a record for the business.

"These results reflect strong demand for shell eggs throughout the year from all the major market segments including retail, egg product and exports," Baker said.
