Organisations representing German dairy and meat processors have opened an office in Beijing to boost exports to China.

Two dairy groups - Der Milchindustrie-Verband, die Export-Union für Milchprodukte - and meat industry association German Meat GmbH have joined forces on the project, co-funded by the German government.

The office, the organisations said, will help improve communication between exporters and importers and help German firms understand Chinese regulations.

Stefan Ritter, MD of German Meat, said: "Until now, only individual German companies are approved for export to China. Imports of specific product groups from Germany is not allowed. With the office in Beijing we will be able to support the authorisation procedures for other businesses."
