India has rejected a 1,000-tonne shipment of soya-corn blend from the US because of fears that it may contain traces of StarLink corn, a genetically modified corn that has been banned from human consumption in the US. The chairman of the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee in India was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying: "We didn't want to take chances. All we wanted was an undertaking from an appropriate authority saying that it was not StarLink."
