Lutti, the French arm of Germany-based confectioner Katjes International, has reportedly expressed interest in assets Mondelez International has been rumoured to be ready to sell.

According to Le Figaro, Katjes is interested in brands including Carambar. “If Mondelez was selling, the purchase of Carambar would make sense for a company like Lutti and its family shareholder Katjes,” Lutti CEO Sébastien Berghe was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

In October, French business publication Challenges reported had put its French confectionery division up for sale, business unit that also includes the Krema brand. When approached by just-food at the time, a spokesperson for Mondelez’s European division said he “could not comment on rumours or speculation”.

Asked today to confirm the interest in the assets, a spokesperson for Lutti said the company had no comment to make.

A spokesperson for Mondelez declined to comment: “As a matter of practise, we don’t comment on market rumours”.
