US-based ethnic food maker Lotus Foods is launching a range of Japanese rice snacks Arare in the US.

The Arare rice crackers will come in three varieties: shoyu, sriracha and sweet & savoury. The products use organic whole grain brown rice and heirloom black rice instead of conventional white rice. The line contains all-natural colours and spices. It is gluten-free, baked not fried, low in fat and cholesterol free.

“Arare in Japan are almost like potato chips in the US,” explains Caryl Levine, Lotus Foods co-founder and CEO. “Consumers are always looking for healthier snacking options with different and exciting flavours. We recently did this with ramen; instead of wheat, we use more nutritious organic whole grain rice paired with non-conventional ingredients like purple sweet potato, buckwheat and millet. The result is a whole new ramen experience that people love. We believe our Arare Rice Crackers will be as successful.”
