Mikado - to be boosted by new investment in production from Mondelez International and Glico

Confectionery giant Mondelez International and Japanese peer Ezaki Glico have invested EUR7m (US$8m) in France to increase production of the Mikado brand.

The money will be used to create a line dedicated for snacks brand Mikado at the Mondelez factory at Cestas in the Gironde region.

Cadbury's chocolate and Oreo cookies maker Mondelez manufactures Mikado products in Europe under licence from Ezaki Glico. Mikado is the name used in Europe for Ezaki Glico's Pocky chocolate brand.

Mondelez said the investment will see the creation of new manufacturing and packaging lines, increasing capacity by nearly 40% and will aid plans to increase exports.

It said the project is part of a broad industrial investment effort: Some EUR30m was invested in 2018 on the company's nine production sites in France.

Mathias Dosne, managing director of Mondelez's business in France, said: "We are proud to support the growth of an iconic brand loved by the French, through an investment under the banner of export, technology and sustainable agriculture."
