Mondelez announces it is restructuring at a site in Belgium

Mondelez International has announced it is "potentially" axing 82 jobs at a site in Belgium.

The cuts will take place at its local head office in the Belgian city of Mechelen and involve administrative roles.

No production is to be affected, a spokesperson confirmed to just-food.

The decision comes as Mondelez carries out plans to "standardise our way of working and create shared service centres", a strategy the company announced a year-and-a-half ago, she added.

Mondelez has entered a consultation phase with its social partners and works council.

"Depending on how these discussions go...the goal is to implement the restructure in 2017," the spokesperson said.

Last week Mondelez announced it was closing a confectionery plant in Spain. The company confirmed 227 staff would be affected by the closure. The announcement came as a result of takeover interest from French investment firm Eurazeo in five Mondelez plants in Europe, as well as a clutch of brands.
