Phoenix-based Marlyn Nutraceuticals, dba Naturally Vitamins, has extended its contract with MUCOS Pharma of Germany giving them exclusive rights to distribute Wobenzym in the US.

Wobenzym, which will be shipped in February 2002, is part of the entire complement of systemic enzyme therapy products pioneered by Karl Ransberger, Ph.D. of MUCOS since the early 1950's. Other products included in the contract for future distribution are Phlogenzym® and Wobe-Mugos®.

The enzymes in Wobenzym break down select harmful proteins that irritate joints and slow recovery from injuries. The systemic enzymes in Wobenzym split other proteins and break them down into smaller fragments. The body uses these naturally-occurring enzymes to remove circulating immune complexes from the blood and other harmful proteins to deliver nutrients and oxygen to various tissues more efficiently.

Joe Lehmann, president, Naturally Vitamins, said: "I'm very proud to continue in the steps of Dr. Ransberger and the systemic enzyme legacy he helped develop.

"Our customers are extremely important to us and we believe in Wobenzym's ability to promote healthy aging and improve the quality of life."

Wobenzym's history dates back to the early 1950's when medical doctor Max Wolf, cancer researcher Dr. Helen Benitez and German biologist Karl Ransberger Ph.D., formed a research team at Columbia University. Their goal was to find a natural cure for cancer using systemic enzymes. When they began testing their enzyme formula they learned patients complained less about aches and pains and the formula had other beneficial effects on their health. In 1959, Ransberger brought the formula to Germany and since then hundreds of M.D.'s and Ph.D.'s have pioneered the medical use of systemic enzymes at MUCOS. With the passing of Ransberger in June 2001, Naturally Vitamins continues his legacy with the signing of the contract with MUCOS.

To date, numerous studies in Europe have been conducted on Wobenzym backing the findings of Wolf, Benetiz and Ransberger. Studies show Wobenzym as safe with none of the adverse side effects of aspirin, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs).

Aftab Ahmed, Ph.D., director of research and development as well as business development for Naturally Vitamins, said: "We will continue to market safe and effective products to address the evolving healthcare needs of our customers.

"Wobenzym has surpassed Naturally Vitamins' two-fold standard. It has been shown to be effective and provides reasonably proven health benefits."
