Instant noodle maker Nissin Food Products has announced a fall in sales of 1.0% to 316.97 bn yen (US$2.96bn) in the year ended 31 March 2005, the Kyodo news agency reports.

Nissin blamed the fall on last year's unusually hot summer, but said it had stepped up cost reductions to increase profit.

The company  reported a net profit of 16.61bn yen, up 18.2% and a pretax profit of 33.18bn yen, up 29.5%.

For fiscal 2005, Nissin expects a net profit of 17bn yen and a pretax profit of 36bn yen on sales of 328bn yen.
