Italian food group Parmalat has reported a fall in total revenue for the first quarter of 2005, but sales at its core businesses have risen.

Total revenue was €949.4m (US$1.2bn), compared with €956.3m in the same period in 2004.

Total EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) was €49.3m compared with €29.8m.

The Group's Core Businesses had revenues of €880.5mn in the first quarter of 2005, compared with €845.9m in the same period last year. This revenue gain produced an improvement in EBITDA as well, which for the core businesses grew both in absolute terms (from €50.6m to €61.8m) and as a percentage of revenues (from 6.0% to 7.0%).

These data do not reflect the impact of the nonrecurring charges related to the extraordinary administration proceedings, which amounted to about €16.5m, the company said.
