Recent acquisitions have boosted sales and earnings at US-based soup-to-sauce maker TreeHouse Foods.

The company saw third-quarter sales rose 8.1% to US$272m, which drove a 26.9& jump in operating profit to $21.9m.

The acquisitions of pickle maker DeGraffenreid and Mexican sauce producer San Antonio Farms gave a lift to the numbers as costs rose.

President and COO David Vermylen said: "Our focus on managing our operating costs resulted in a further decrease in spending as a percent of total revenue. While we see no end in sight to rising commodity costs, we will endeavor to further improve our margins through pricing and cost controls."
