Quaker Oats has recalled some of its own-brand Quaker Oats Original and Jumbo Oats from UK shelves due to possible contamination with beetles.

The 1.5kg Original and 1kg Jumbo Rolled Oats are understood to possibly contain a beetle known as the 'confused flower beetle' (Tribolium confusum).

The Food Standards Agency issued a food alert yesterday (17 November).

The products being recalled have a best before date of 11 July 2009 and day codes of 191, 192 or 193.

The product has only been distributed to Tesco stores only.

Quaker Oats said it has recalled the affected products and point-of-sale notices will be displayed in stores explaining why they have been recalled.

Customers are being urged not to eat the affected products and to call the company's consumer team.

No other Quaker Oats products are known to be affected.
