Ebro ploughs investment into US rice production

Ebro Foods, the Spain-based manufacturer, has announced investment in its production network in the US.

The company has expanded capacity at a plant in Memphis making microwaveable rice products under the Minute brand.

Ebro has spent US$27m on the project, instigated due to increasing demand in the US for ready-to-serve products.

"We will be in a stronger position to meet or exceed customer needs for the product," Enrique Zaragoza, COO at local Ebro subsidiary Riviana Foods. said.

Around 25 more jobs will be created, taking the plant's workforce to more than 380.

In the first nine months of 2019, sales from Ebro's overall rice division increased 9.2% to EUR1.13bn (US$1.25bn). The division's EBITDA grew 18.3% to EUR140m.

"Sales figures are performing very well across Europe, where our brands continue to grow, while the rest of the market remains flat. We are coming to the end of a very good year in Spain, France, the UK and Thailand," Ebro said.
